FAQ: "How does scoring work in the ECCC?"

Please refer to a complete season's points standings for handy reference. It will greatly assist with your understanding of these scoring procedues. They are in fact quite straightforward.

Individual Races/Events
Definition: "Individual Race/Event" = A one-day event that is promoted independently of other races in a given weekend. E.g. "The Williams Criterium" (not part of a whole weekend-long promotion).

Scoring Procedure:
A. Sum all points per team across all categories.
B. Split teams into two sets: Division I and Division II.
C. Rank teams according to total points in each Division set.
D. Award points to each 1st, 2nd, 3rd ... 9th team according to:

Division I Division II
Place Team Name Team Points Place Team Name Team Points
1   20 1   20
2   16 2   16
3   13 3   13
4   10 4   10
5   7 5   7
6   5 6   5
7   3 7   3
8   2 8   2
9   1 9   1
10+   0 10+   0

Weekend Events
Definition: "Weekend Event" = A multi-day (Saturday & Sunday) series of two or more events that are promoted as a "race weekend". The scoring for this weekend event comprises all events during the weekend. E.g. "The Army Spring Classic" - A road race, team time trial, and criterium.

Scoring Procedure:
A. Sum all points per team across all categories and all events of the weekend. So, add all of UNH's Men D, Men C, Women B, Men B, Women A, and Men A points from all events together. Do this for every team.
B. Split teams into two sets: Division I and Division II.
C. Rank teams according to total points in each Division set.
D. Award points to each 1st, 2nd, 3rd ... 9th team according to the above, but multiply the team points values by the number of events in the weekend.

  • If there are two events (one event Saturday and one event Sunday), the 1st place team gets 40 team points, the 2nd place team gets 32, 3rd gets 26, etc.
  • If there are three events (one event Saturday and two events Sunday), the 1st place team gets 60 team points, the 2nd place team gets 48, 3rd gets 39, etc.
  • If there are four events (two each day), the 1st place team gets 80 team points, the 2nd place team gets 64, 3rd gets 52, etc.
  • Note: Easterns has three events, but points are doubled. The 1st place team gets 120, the 2nd place gets 96, 3rd gets 78, etc.

ECCC Ivy League Team Standings
The ECCC Ivy League Team Standings are calculated in a similar fashion to the individual events/weekend events procedure above. However, the Ivy League schools are ranked only in relation to each other. Ivy League schools are: Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton, UPenn, and Yale. If a team does not show or scores no individual points in a given event or weekend, that team is not ranked/awarded team points for the Ivy league standings.

Scoring Procedure:
A. Sum all points per team across all categories. If it is a race weekend, include all events in this sum.
B. Rank Ivy League teams against each other.
C. Award points to each 1st, 2nd, 3rd ... 8th team according to (use appropriate multiplier if a multi-race weekend):

Ivy League Schools

Place Team Name Ivy Team Points
1   20
2   16
3   13
4   10
5   7
6   5
7   3
8   2

ECCC Team Standings (Division I/Division II)
The ECCC Team Overall Standings are the sum of all team points accumulated over the course of the season. Only ECCC events count towards this total. There are no "dropped" races - all regular season events count towards these rankings. Division I and Division II schools are ranked and tabulated separately.

ECCC Nationals Team Qualifiers (Division I/Division II)
ECCC Nationals Team Qualifiers is done in the exact same way as regular ECCC Team Points, although only A race points are considered for Nationals qualifiers. Thus, only A Men and A Women are included in the team totals for a given event/weekend.

ECCC Individual Standings
These are pretty straightforward sums of a given individuals' points tally for the entire season in a given category. Points do not "carry over" if a rider upgrades or downgrades between categories. Road races, Criteriums, ITT's, and other individual-specific events (Hillclimbs, Street Sprints) count towards the individual's total. Team Time Trials do not count toward an individual's total. Likewise, prime points do not count toward an individual's total.
